I have been grewling over copyright infringement laws for 2 hours now. Does anyone have any simple answers? I just want to know what is legal and illegal in making a music video to my favorite songs? I just want to do this for personal pleasure and to have some fun editing and learning how to edit.
I'm not looking for links, I'm already frustrated. Just examples of what can and can not be done.
If you just want to do it for fun, then you can use any of your own music collection legally, BUT (big BUT) you can't post it on youtube. That's where you cross the line... when you make it publicly available.
If you want to post on YouTube, then the rule of thumb is this: "If you can buy it online or in a store... then you CAN'T use it for YouTube."
If the music is or was commercially available, then it is protected by copyrights.
Use music that is in the Public Domian.
